چکیده

The conductance catheter method has been applied to evaluate dynamics of a heart cycle. Its validation for the functional analysis of Biomechanical Hearts (BMH), autologous muscular blood pumps with a stabilizing pumping chamber, has not yet been reported. In a test apparatus, a fluid filled pumping chamber of a BMH was hydraulically compressed by a moving piston. Volume shift was measured simultaneously by a conductance catheter and by a movement analyzer as control with variation of catheter’s electrical field, the pumping chamber’s surrounding conductivity and the piston velocity. For all these conditions, no significant influence on the measurement accuracy was observed (p>0.4,p>0.33,p>0.18). Volumes measured by both methods showed a maximum relative error of 6.1±0.4% (R=0.99). Peak flows however demonstrated a remarkably high relative error up to 48% (R=0.955). Aberrations in peak flows as well as in volumes may be compensated by computed calibration formulae. The conductance catheter method offers a valuable tool for the evaluation of Biomechanical Heart dynamic properties. (160 W).

Novel method for measurement of medium size arterial lumen area with an impedance catheter: in vivo validation.

There is no doubt that the transformation of a cardiac catheter into a conductance catheter that allows reliable and accurate assessment of lumen cross-sectional area (CSA) will provide a powerful diagnostic and treatment tool for the invasive cardiologist. The objective of this study was to develop a method based on the impedance catheter that allows accurate and reproducible measurements of C...

Catheter-related candidemia and identification of causative Candida species in patients with cardiovascular disorder

Background and Purpose: Catheter-related blood circulation infection is the most dangerous and serious side-effects of vascular catheters, which leads to the enhancement of the costs, mortality, and hospital stay duration, especially in the Intensive Care Unit. Regarding this, the aim of the current study was to identify the prevalence of catheter-induced candidemia in the Tehran Heart Center, ...

Evaluation of biomechanical risk factor and relationship with disability of upper limbs in assembly workers of porcelain manufacturing company

Introduction: Upper limbs are more susceptible to musculoskeletal disorders. The OCRA method is suggested to measure the biomechanical risk of the associated with the manual, repetitive work in upper limbs. Questionnaires can be used to measure the symptoms of diseases and disabilities. The DASH questionnaire is one of these questionnaires that are used to evaluate disability of upper limbs. In...

Trans-catheter Bioprosthetic Heart Valve Implantation in Iran (Tehran Heart Centre Experience)

Introduction: With the development of interventional cardiology in the world, in addition to coronary and aortic diseases, the treatment of heart valve diseases through catheters has recently begun. The treatment of aortic stenosis (which was only possible with open surgery and valve replacement) was first performed in the world in 2002 by Alain Cribier in France with catheter insertion of the ...
